Although it technically refers to the temporomandibular joint, the acronym " TMJ" is often used to refer to disorders with the jaw joint. TMJ disorders, also called TMD, can be caused by teeth grinding, jaw clenching, external trauma, disease, poor posture, high stress levels, and wear due to aging.
