General Dentistry - Dentures
Missing teeth can cause facial muscles to sag, affecting the structure of a patient's face. To assist with the prevention and correction of this problem, Dr. Hoffmann offers dentures at his Milwaukee area practice. A less permanent and more affordable alternative to dental implants and bridges, dentures can be used to replace some or all of a patient's teeth. Complete or full dentures are used when tooth decay, periodontal disease, or injury have caused complete loss of natural teeth in the upper or lower jaw. These dentures can help a patient eat and speak normally, as well as restore facial structure. There are different types of complete dentures available: conventional dentures, immediate dentures, and cosmetic dentures. With conventional dentures, Milwaukee patients have any remaining teeth removed from their mouth and wait until the tissues have healed (possibly several months later) before the dentures are placed. Contrarily, immediate dentures are inserted as soon as the remaining teeth are removed. This process saves patients from being without teeth during the healing period. Cosmetic dentures are personalized to each patient. These dentures tend to look and work better than traditional full dentures. Partial dentures are available for Milwaukee patients who have lost some, but not most, of their teeth. Unlike dental implants and bridges, partial dentures are removable. Surrounding natural teeth, gums, and a supporting structure hold the partial dentures in place. No matter what type of denture is used, patients must remember that proper cleaning and dental care is still extremely important.
